Pink had made it to the open meadow, a place where a event would soon occur, specifically, The Sapphire High-Tea. This event, at least on her colony, had become a way for sapphires to talk, and even at times negotiate a peace between two rivals or factions. More-so however, it was a time for Sapphires to socialize with gems as high as their own class, other Sapphires.
this was Pink's first actual meeting though, as each High-Tea occurs once every 10 years, and she herself hadn't popped out of the ground yet for the last one, which she heard was quite dramatic.
Pink had managed to find a picnic table in the middle of the meadow, and if she had assumed right, the coordinates for the High-Tea were nearly always the same on each planet, and this picnic bench was smack-dab on the coordinate.
The area around the picnic bench was clear of loose dirt or rocks, in fact flowers bloomed only a short feet away, scattered through the area, and area itself, was surrounded by large green hills, with signs of a forest behind them. It was truly beautiful.
Something worried her though, what was the actual chance of other sapphires being on this planet? As she had warped from place to place, she couldn't see any signs of other Sapphires, just mostly humans.
Pink couldn't loose hope though! She was sure there was at least one Sapphire here!
She sat on the bench, humming to herself as she waited quietly for someone to arrive.
Padparadscha and her trusted Pink Pearl wandered through the tall grass. Her coordinate holoscreen floated in front of her hands as she searched for the proper place. She'd come here before, alone, to ruminate on herself and her position as a sapphire. Though many hundreds of solar cycles had passed since her origination, she was a very young gem by most standards. The unconventional nature of her own inception gnawed at her, but she was still a sapphire. Today, she felt the strong urge to sit, and meditate.
The old, seasoned picnic table sat where it had for a few decades-- worn, but still sturdy, as if it knew that it had a mission to complete. Padparadscha paused when she realized there was someone there, her pearl took pause as well. "A gem, your clarity," Pink Pearl said softly, with her taller vantage point she could see more clearly over the grass. The sapphire squinted her eyes, then continued forward. There were very few gems who could have a reason to come here, unless...
The two pink court gems stepped into view of the Pink Sapphire awaiting them. "Greetings," Padparadscha chimed in her clear, breezy tone, then threw up a perfectly executed Diamond salute. Her pearl, straight backed, followed her patron's salute. "Padparadscha facet 10C8A cut 8QE, Headquarters Affiliate. It's a surprise to meet you here, comrade,"
Sapphire was... puzzled once he learned about this gathering of Sapphires. He never witnessed anything like this, however his posting on Earth was the longest time, he ever spent on one planet. All those hundreds of years spent travelling across the space, keeping colonies in check. The most likely scenario was, that this was a trap.
And yet he decided to attend. He was just too curious. He turned up with his ruby escort. Three of them, though his remaining guardians were close, unseen but prepared to appear if the situation called for it. He was slightly surprised, when he saw just two sapphires and a pearl once he arrived to given location.
"Thank you, that will be all for now, please stay nearby..."
Fortunately his former escort was used to the fact, that sometimes Sapphire had to act like he used to back on Homeworld. Alone he approached the others, with his 3 guard standing far enough away not to bother the meeting, yet close enough to remain clearly visible.
"Greetings, I am Sapphire, Facet-2V3C Cut-77K, personal ambassador of Her Imperial Majesty, the Illustrious Blue Diamond herself... and her envoy to planet Earth. "
As Pink had been sitting there for only a few minutes, she realized that someone had arrived, specifically whom she was waiting for. Rising from her seat, Pink smiled and approached them. "Greetings to you as well!" She replied excitingly. There truly was other Sapphires' on this planet!
As Pink was saluted, She realized she had to as well, quickly saluting Padparadscha back, less elegantly then she had done.
"I am Pink Sapphire, Facet..." Oh dear, pink had forgotten her designation! "...Oh my, I've seemed to have forgotten it, how embarrassing." She replied, her voice shrinking to a mumble. "I assure you though, I'm supposed to join Pink Diamonds' court should I make it to Home-world." She quickly addressed, clasping her hands' together nervously.
What really caught Pink off guard was that she was surprised Pink was here, maybe they didn't gather for the event on this planet? Pink hoped the was not the case.
As she looked on however, another Sapphire had appeared, this gem of a blueish hue, Blue Diamonds...?
Oh, correct. Pink introduced herself again, this time just saying her name, for surely she'll remember her facet in time.
"Well, I welcome you both to the Gathering of Sapphires, as I am new here, I would love if you two sat with me today, and maybe discuss about this planet, or how you two have been doing!" She continued, motioning for both of them to sit with her on the bench.
It had been awhile since Pink need to use her manners, which she preferred not to use unless in polite company, and because she didn't exactly pass that part of being a sapphire.
One of her refined brows arched as the pink sapphire gave a belated salute, then admitted to having forgotten her own facet and cut. She found it exceedingly odd that this gem spoke as if she wasn't already a part of Pink Diamond's court. These, in the loyalist sapphire's experience, were the symptoms of a runaway gem. But, with so little evidence to go off of, Padparadscha didn't let herself dwell on it too much. Her senses were on the fritz lately, every gem she met was suspicious, she never knew who she could trust on this planet. Her lips parted, and just as she were going to give her reply, her pearl stiffened, and another gem stepped into the garden-like picnic area.
Her eyes widened. A blue-court sapphire at the direct behest of the lustrous Blue Diamond, a very prestigious gem. Immediately, she and her pearl turned to salute the sapphire and introduce themselves. She'd always had an enormous admiration for those sapphires of conventional status, who could walk tall and proud no matter their company. For herself, it was something of a struggle to keep up her greatest facade, to hide her past so that she could take on the guise of a perfect sapphire. "Truly, it's a great honor to meet you here, Sapphire," She said, her tone swelling with esteem.
Today, she decided, would be a day of deep meditation. Here were two other sapphires, gathered here where she'd come so many times before to think on what it meant to be an aristocrat. To her, a sapphire was meant to command respect and dignity. She wondered what perspectives these others would provide. With that, she went to the picnic table, and slid into the bench across from Pink Sapphire. Her pearl stood at the end of the table, her hands clasped. "Thank you, Pink Sapphire, it's an honor to be here with you. There are many things about this planet to discuss..." Padparadscha didn't particularly want to discuss how she'd been doing-- she'd been stressed, completely exhausted in fact, but she kept those thoughts in the back of her mind,"-- As for how I am, of course, I'm always well to serve. What of yourselves?"
Sapphire hold his hand in flawless diamond salute. "It is both honor and pleasure to meet you here."
He said in perfectly neutral voice, without any smudge of emotion. It was strange to see other sapphires here. Granted, neither of them was a real sapphire, one was a Padparadscha, the other was colored Sapphire, but still. Sapphires were few in numbers and for three of them to meet on a rebel planet... "Before we proceed any further, I feel obligated to point out, that three sapphires meeting might make this place a prime target for rebel attack. Hence I charged my escort with protection. If you see any gems around don't be alarmed."
It was a fair warning hinting, that there were more gems around then his 3 rubies. The minor fact, that all of them were rebels wasn't all that important right now. Sapphire was speaking the truth though, all of those gems were his original escort and they were securing the place. "My task on Earth turned out far beyond uneasy, so far my efforts are fruitless. And since I live to serve my Diamond my current status is sub-optimal."
Pink was extremely nervous, the two sapphires seemed to have much more experience then Pink had, and were flawless in their ways.
As Sapphire enlightened them of his' escort and the possible attack of rebels, she nodded. Of course there could be a possible attack upon the three of them, out in the open like this. Pink had only wished her rubies could be here, as she seemed to be the only Sapphire without a proper escort, or pearl. Quite unsettling to say the least.
"O-oh! I' recently arrived on this planet, due to some rather, unlikely circumstances. I've lost my guards to a ship's malfunction, lost said ship, faced a deranged gem and his victim and well..." Pink realized she was rambling, while they had kept it so simple! Pink needed to try to act accordingly.
"The rest has been fairly peaceful, s-so... Sapphire, w-what task have you've been sent to complete exactly?" Pink asked, shifting her thoughts away from her internal grievances and rather long detailing of her recent past.
She gave a curt, respectful nod to Sapphire as he warned them. Three rare aristocrats in one spot was surely a glaring target, and she was glad for the blue-court gem's forethought in bringing his full retinue. As expected, the Sapphire was collected, calm, and difficult to analyze. However, she couldn't shake the feeling that there was something off. It was her habit to analyze gems, something she couldn't just dial back, even if she felt she were intruding on fellow nobles. Where did this off feeling come from? The situation, perhaps? Though as the gem continued, she figured that it had been a mild discomfort-- it was certainly forthright of the sapphire to admit his current standing. "Earth is a wild beast, in my experience. Difficult to tame, but not impossible. You'll prevail in your endeavors in time, I'm sure" She gave a warm, pearly smile.
Padparadscha reeled a bit as Pink began to whisk through the current events in her life, but as she considered what the gem had said, she felt a sinking in her chest. Everything the pink sapphire had said seemed to be the truth, and if it really was, then this gem had undergone something horribly traumatic. The thought of losing her own entourage made her feel sick, she wasn't sure if she would be able to go on after such a thing. An encounter with a deranged gem sounded familiar to her, a hardship she could relate to. She swallowed, and looked at Pink with a glean of pity in her eyes. "I'm sorry, it sounds...difficult," It was all she could muster before the other pink-court gem moved to her next topic. As Pink went on, Padparadscha stayed quiet, turning to regard the Sapphire and awaiting his next words.
"I learned of many ships, that had similar problems. My own vessel didn't survive the entry without damage, but it fared batter, then most."
He emphasised with Pink Sapphire's unfortunate landing. It seemed that Pink Sapphire was quite new at this. Her experience was lacking and she appeared a bit green. Too opened to do this job properly. But it might as well be a play. Some newer Sapphires employed this tactic, so older gems would underestimate them. The other Sapphire was more experienced.
Pink asked him question, that was most inappropriate, but he chose to answer it anyway. "My Diamond was worried, that situation on this planet is getting too unstable. She sent me here to try and avert it, but unfortunately I arrived to late to prevent the hostilities. All I could do was try and lessen the impact of the rising conflict. In that regard I made some advances... but my work is far from finished..."
He sighed for a moment. It was a calculated show of emotion.
"...I'm alive to say the least." Pink muttered quietly, looking off for only a second.
For the past few days she had been on this planet, she had adjusted quickly, suppressing the more complicated thoughts of the crash and that dreaded event afterwards. for someone to say it sounds difficult, she sort of felt, surprised. her expression shifted to a unreadable tone.
Why had she continued on after all this, chaos?
She searched through her own mind, but she had blocked most of her thoughts on the rather negative subject at this point, with efforts probably futile to break the barricade in her current emotions.
Finally returning to her senses from her mind, Pink only heard Sapphire's response to her question.
Pink's response hesitated however. "...F-From how you worded it, Does it have something to d-do with a rebellion or another faction here on this planet?" Pink asked, surprised. Was there a chance of Pink being captured, or worse shattered from a outside force?
Padparadscha searched Pink's expression as she muttered, and gave a gentle nod of her head. The other pink-court gem seemed to disappear within herself for a quiet moment. She supposed that the sapphire was deep in contemplation-- Padpara would be herself if she had suffered a similar fate, and let her be with her thoughts for a moment.
She turned her attention to the blue-court aristocrat, and bit her inner cheek unconsciously as she listened. She thought back to her discussion with a certain fire opal who'd suggested that the atmosphere itself was knocking ships from the sky left and right. Padparadscha had met many Earth-bound individuals who had similar harrowing experiences, and there was a twisting in her abdomen as she thought about how many close calls she'd had herself. Was she one botched landing away from ending up in the same position?
As Sapphire moved on to answer the next question, she was again surprised by how straight forward he was. There seemed to be a purpose behind his admission, however, and she paid close attention to the words he spoke. She knew that he referred to the rebellion, a topic that gave her discomfort, though it was a hefty and important one. She bit back what expressions she would have for those traitors she hated so much, knowing she would have to keep herself in a cordial mood-- difficult to do when thinking or speaking about rebels.
But, it seemed that the conversation was going to be going on about rebels at the sound of Pink's question. Padpara cleared her throat, keeping her lips pursed lest her distaste get the better of her. "Pah...traitors. All of them." She couldn't keep herself from her twinge of ire.
Sapphire glanced at Pink Sapphire. Even if his face was hidden behind a visor she could feel his strict look.
"In certain instances, the only thing more dangerous than a question is the response."
He just responded laconically. It was also a subtle warning, that asking more question about his mission might not be taken kindly. He already told more, than was advisable. He had his reason, naturally.
The other Sapphire was different. Sapphire felt, that every word he said was under analysis. As it should be among his peers. She appeared to harbor some deeper distaste for the rebellion. Such open expression might also be a calculated move, perhaps for someone, who sympathized for rebels? Or was one...
"Traitors... So this isn't exactly the nicest planet." Pink muttered, but completely shut her mouth entirely as Sapphire's gaze became strict, realizing that she was going too far with the questions. Hopefully the Sapphire would forgive her, silently...
...Though, Pink began to wonder.
As both Sapphires had confirmed her thoughts, Pink knew that there was more to this story then just "Traitors." They must have a reason to create conflict in the first place, whether illogical, or unreasonable. Plus,
Why would a adequate amount of gems turn hostile, and attack home-world? They were the authority that created them, each with a perfect purpose, to serve the individual diamonds they are assigned to. To throw all that away for something else, there had to be something important, something that would allow them to continue this conflict Sapphire spoke of.
Pink hesitated to ask the Sapphire about the subject again, as if she did, she'd probably be ridiculed for asking so many questions...
Though, Pink became slightly suspicious, why wouldn't he want the two Sapphires to not know of his mission? They were on the same planet as him, and all three of their gems were on the line.
Mostly, hers due to her unfortunate position, though she at least had Spade around... Unless she wouldn't answer Pink's phone...
At this point, Pink was drifting in-and-out of the conversation, while beginning to question Sapphire's motives.
The blue-court sapphire seemed to be especially chilly at Pink's line of questioning, though she couldn't blame him. This other pink-court sapphire seemed to be entirely out of the loop, and the unspoken questions that Padparadscha had about this gem began to grow in number. Her eyes flickered back to Sapphire as he gave his detached statement regarding her own more charged declaration about the rebels. There wasn't anything to read in his words, the truthfulness of them couldn't be questioned-- yet, she began to have her own questions regarding this sapphire's presence on Earth. What exactly had been stalling his endeavors? She supposed she might be able to tease up an answer if she kept the conversation going. The right words in the right places could help her cause, but it would also reveal a lot about herself that she wasn't sure she should be revealing quite yet. She was ready to take a risk, nonetheless.
When Pink took her moment to speak, Padparadscha cleared her throat to begin clarification on her earlier exclamation. "This planet...well, nice certainly isn't a word I would use to describe it," She sighed and pursed her lips,"It's inhospitable for gemkind in numerous ways. There are a handful of traitorous gems harboring themselves here-- but compared to corruption, the hostile environments, it's almost laughable to think that these scrawny rebel efforts, Broken or Crystal, could be a threat to our endeavors," Her eyes flickered between the two aristocratic gems sitting sitting around her. She'd made it clear where she stood. Would these other gems be coaxed into doing the same, or would they remain at an arms length? Either way, their answers would be telling.
Sapphire was enjoying this discussion so far. He stood between two gems - one of them an appeared rookie, the other a cunning and skilled diplomat. There was very little he could lose and a lot he could gain by this meeting, but it would be probably best to take this as seriously as possible. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... so "nice" is a matter of opinion. Perhaps you would appreciate it more if it was more pink, then blue?"
He tried to lighten up the mood with a joke. Of course one might say, that this rebellion happened on Pink Diamond's planet... their Diamond's planet. There were no rebellions on Blue Diamond's planets.
"It is certainly very inhospitable. Yet I am afraid, that you vastly underestimate our enemy. The very thought, that this tiny rebellion could endanger the Empire is of course as laughable as it is insulting, but they did manage to destroy most of the Empire's presence here. Kindergartens are gone, garrisons shattered, communication hub and Galaxy warp pad sabotaged. They become a very itchy minor inconvenience, wouldn't you say?"
He asked with perfectly neutral voice. Padparadscha was trying to taunt him, so he stroke back. It wasn't at all uncommon for gems to consider their Diamond better then the other's. The first among equals, so to speak.
