Sulfur tried to refrain from grinning. He couldn't believe that he was actually enjoying this. Usually he viewed torture as a form of brutality, but this gem made it fun. He felt like he was torturing Chalcedony, his old enemy. Only... Chal wasn't as horrible as this gem. Deciding that this was compromising him, Sulfur thought it would be best to deal with the gem.
"Let go Howlite..." Sulfur said. "let me speak."
He leaned close to Variscite. He looked into her eyes.
"Look you little piece of filth... You attacked me." He looked around at the torture equipment. "Do you like this? Is this fun for you? I doubt it. It can all end you know. just answer my questions and we will let you go. Well... by that I mean we will stop torturing you."
Howlite raised his hook one more time when Sulfur told him to stop. "Very well boss." He leaned in on the gem. "Sorry about this. I wish I could keep going but orders are orders." Then he put the hook away for later use. He hoped this gem would talk. But at the same time he didn't. If she did, Sulfur would be pleased with his work. But if she didn't, he could keep going for longer. Either way Howlite would be happy. "So boss have I done a good job? You like what you see?" He hoped to gain Sulfur's approval. It was always hard to get.
"Why did I attack you... Variscite cast a sickly grin at the green gem. I attacked you because I had too.
"You see, I have been hunting down corrupted gems, and crushing them for training. When I saw you eliminate that massive corrupted gem back there, I knew you were strong. I did not want to fight you, but I had no choice. Anyone who poses a threat to me must be eliminated because I have to be the strongest. All the problems in our universe stem from an individuals lack of ability... The strong have the right to do as they please with the weak. The reason I am on the torture table instead of you is because you were stronger than me, and I lacked the ability to oppose you. Unacceptable."
"And as for the torture equipment," Variscite smirked, "It hurts me, oh so very much, but I don't really care, because I'm used to it!
Sulfur rolled his eyes. The crazy gem was thick. He would have tried to make use out of her, but she was just too dull. His patience was gone. Watching the gem go through torture wasn't enough to relieve himself. Fortunately there was an idea he had for this gem that would make him very happy. It was an idea that would make Howlite very happy too.
"At least you talked." Sulfur grunted. He sat on a bench near the torture table and watched them. He then turned to Howlite with a smirk.
"You can shatter her now." Sulfur said. "I am sure you have been waiting for this for so long. I have no more use for her, as she is useless. Just make sure to enjoy yourself."
"Oh no I don't think so. I have better plans. Leave her. I'm gonna keep going. If she enjoys this so much... She can choke on it." He then walked over to her. "Anything you'd like to say to me before I rip out every ounce of spirit in you?" He grinned. This gem may have been his toughest victim yet. He was gonna enjoy breaking her. What would be the straw that brakes the camel's back? He started to polish his equipment while whistling a tune. He hadn't had this much fun in a very long time. He hoped Sulfur could find more like her.
"So sadism is your hobby too Howlite. Just like my previous captors. But I would warn you not to get careless. I had two sadistic freaks like you torture me in the past..." Variscite grinned. "But they each made the same mistake... my first torturer was a human, he kept me screaming day and night for months, but one day forgot to seal up his toys, and I killed him."
"My second torturer was a Chalcedony, she did the same but was far worse then the human. After a few months he forgot to seal up his toys... and I cracked his gem." Variscite paused for a few seconds.
"Howlite... you... do realize that these chains cannot contain me."
Variscite contorted her arms and legs until she was able to tear the torture equipment out of her skin. She staggered, but then stood upright before him.
"I can't exactly stay here so... I hope you don't mind if we play in a different way.
Variscite summoned her weapons and charged at Howlite, launching her grappling hooks at him.
"You pathetic little wretch!" He sidestepped her charge and then caught her hooks "You're gonna regret this. You can't kill me no matter how bad you think you are." He then grinned. "You say your first captor was a man? And the second a gem? Well I'm a monster. And when I take you down, you're going right back on that table." Howlite dropped the hooks and summoned his rifle. He remembered his spar with Sulfur. Sulfur had said to make use of his ranged weapon. He had an idea. "Hey crazy! Catch me if you can!" That gem thought she was crazy. She didn't know the meaning of the world. Now she was in Howlite's home thinking she can kill him? Time to put her back in her place.
Variscite gave a gentle smile at Howlite. "Crazy suits me just fine." She turned and ran up the a wall in the chamber, using the momentum of her dash to reach the celling. Before falling Variscite latched onto the celling with her grapple and swung from it, throwing chandeliers and kicking light weight tables toward Howlite.
As she preformed acrobatic maneuvers through the air, Variscite started thinking. Their was ventilation shafts in the chamber, leading up to other rooms. This large cavern was not the entire castle. It was far greater in display. It was raining outside. She heard the sound of thousand of raindrops beating against some huge perimeter of material. These gems were rich. Not only were they strong, but they were also intelligent enough to survive in a world that frowned upon their hobbies, certainly not the typical, stupid villains she had known before.
"An acrobat too? Huh it seems as if I'd be fighting myself here." He vaulted over the tables, using chains and spikes to get higher and higher until he matched her height. He looked her in the eyes with a look of a demon. "I could do this all day. Let's just say we call it quits eh? You quit this senseless fight and I can get back to my job. If not.... Like I said it's pointless. You'll just go straight back to where we started. Only this time... I WILL break you. I WILL make you suffer." He attempted to shove her off her vantage point.
It wasn't like Variscite had not lost to anything in the past, but since she became 'strong' she had never encountered anyone who was able to keep up with her. Her speed and limber joints proved useful when combined with her grapples. Speed was her strong suit. She would simply overpower him with her grapples, but this gem had lightning fast reflexes and more importantly, a long ranged weapon, like her own. If she fought close up with Howlite, his strength would likely overpower her. From afar, she would be snipped. This opponent was simply hard to fight. Variscite's best bet would be to stay at medium range.
Howlite's elbow connected with Variscite's face, sending her across the room. Back on the floor, she resummoned her weapons and partway extended her grapples length slashing across with each grapple repeatedly at Howlite.
Howlite smirked when she fell. He quickly zoomed down to her level. Then she started slashing at him. He ducked and weaved and dodged. "Ha!" Suddenly he looked down and saw his hoodie was all cut up and part of his hair was on the ground. "Man I really liked that hoodie!" Then as he smirked again he decided to play a little game. "Why are you fighting me? Sure I'm a sadistic anarchist who tortured you but come on! I simply was doing my job. Can you really blame me for that? What say we just call it a day?" He tried to pour out as much charm as he could muster, hoping to get her to back down.
Howlite tried to dodge the attacks. They were fast, but he did his best to avoid them. He managed to do most of them. But then one of them went into his left hand and tore it off. He roared out in rage. "My turn!" He grabbed the rope of the grapple with his right hand instead of his now separated left hand and yanked on the cord with all his might. As he did he stiffened up and got ready for an attack. If he could time this right he would bash her head with his knee. But again off by just one second and he'd fail. Plus she could just let go of the rope which would also have to be countered. Howlite started to stare at her eyes as he planned out for hundreds of possible ways this fight could go.
Sulfur sat in his chair like a throne watching the duel. Howlite was clearly superior, but this gem wasn't entirely helpless. The battle was quite the watch, but Sulfur was not there to watch a fight. He noticed that the gem was quite showy for being a captive. He surely did meet a variety of gems these days. It seemed that she had accepted defeat as she asked to join the broken gems. Sulfur shifted in his chair.
"You are incorrect. If you beat him you will become shards by my hand. If he beats you then we will drop your gem down a chasm. If you are lucky you will sustain a crack and be in the ditch for months." Sulfur said. "I don't know one reason I would tend to a gem who threatened my knight!"
Variscite had a split second to think. Howlite was going to bash her head with his knee, but if off centered, she would avoid his knee and collide into him full force instead. She might be able to make her way to his neck and place him in a triangle choke, strangling him until he proofed, but she risked the fact that he may even be better and close range skirmishes then her.
The green gem clearly wanted her dead or prevented from ever returning. Variscite would have to do more than win this impossible fight if she wanted to survive, let alone join an organization that would benefit her.
At the last minute, she decided to let go of her weapon and resummon it later. Their were still a few tricks she had up her sleeve that should not come out yet. She released her weapon a fraction of a second to late. The chain of her extension wrapped around her middle finger and took it off. As she clutched it to her body and winced she righted her self and darted away from Howlite, entering middle range.
"Reason?" Variscite offered a grin. It is always best to have more fire power on your side, even so I do more than just fighting, so let's be diplomatic here." Variscite's smile faded. "besides, your the one who put Howlite in danger by bringing him to me. It's your fault!"
